I am 19 years old and have just passed my driving test. I would like to buy my own little car now, but it’s my understanding that I have to have insurance to test drive a car. Obviously there is little point in buying a year’s worth of insurance for a car that i might not buy, but I’m struggling to find a company that offers 24 hour cover for young drivers, under the age of about 23.
Any suggestions?? Do you know any companies that do provide cover for young divers?? I really don’t want to have to buy a car without test-driving it, but I also don’t want to wait 4 years. ![]()
If the car you want to test drive is from a dealership then they should have insurance to allow you to test drive their cars.
If its a private seller then you need to have your own insurance. This shouldn’t be too difficult but.
There are plenty of insurance companies out there that will insure you for one day, if your age makes it more difficult then just shop around until you find one that will.
Elephant, and direct line are usually quite good for younger people, try them.
Otherwise get someone you trust (mum or dad) to test drive it for you.
You will not get temporary cover at your age. Car dealers should be OK to let you test drive on their insurance but obviously you cannot test drive ones for private sale
