There is a company called Day Insure which is underwritten by Norwich Union, I used it last year when I borrowed a car for a few days. www.dayinsure.co.uk

  2. Check his current car insurance, this should/may cover this. If not the company he is leasing from should be able to help

  4. Just have your dad get his insurance company to add you as a driver. If you’re only going to drive occasionally, you may not even have to be added. Check with his insurance company to be sure.

  5. If the car is already insured, the correct way forward would be to get added as a temporary additional driver under his policy.

Whilst you can take out short-period policies on the car yourself, you’d still need to disclose the fact the car isn’t owned/registered to you (which could cause problems), and you’d still have the issue of double-indemnity (2 policies covering the same car) in the event of a claim.

  6. You might be able to but I’m sure you have to hold a full driving licence and your age might have a lot to do with that as well of coarse and the lease might only cover you dad.

I think you should ask the car hire company coz most car hire company has insurance on their cars…

Or if you like really to have a short term insurance have a search on sites like this http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com where they have listings of carinsurances for you to check…

  8. How short term are you talking about? Most insurance carriers (in the US) have only 6 month policies at a time. If you are worried about the insurance lasting longer than the time you will have the car – do not worry. If you purchase a 6 month policy, and say 3 months after you have the policy you decide you don’t want the car – you just call the insurance company and cancel it, and they WILL refund the rest of the premium.
