If you were learning to drive (just say for example) every Saturday and only on Saturday by a relative, can you get learner’s insurance only for that day instead of wasting money on a short term car insurance of 28 days. You would be only using 4 out of the 28 days to learn, leaving 24 days of insurance being wasted.
NO – you would have to have a longer term policy. The car would have to be insured full time if it is taxed – thats the law.
Can you choose when to have learner’s insurance on certain days?

Ask an insurance company, but I doubt it.

Some insurers do a temporary additional driver policy. The car would have to be insured by it’s main user, then each time you want to go on, the policyholder would have to add you on for a week or a month or so. However, I must stress that this type of insurance can be very expensive as insurers can charge an administration fee every time you change a policy, so if it is something you would do regularly, it may be cheaper just to leave yourself on the policy permanently than keep paying for temporary cover. Usually, the insurer would charge for a minimum of a weeks cover, so just picking every weekend would not really save you anything.
